In January 2026, Lockheed Martin and the U.S. Department of Defense signed an agreement that will quadruple production capacity from 96 to 400 THAAD interceptors per year. Each THAAD interceptor costs $12.77 million.

Patriot missiles Patriot systems are described as part of the U.S. layered defense, and are also produced by Lockheed Martin as part of their multilayered defense approach.

The main challenge Demand for these missiles from the U.S. and its allies far exceeds production capacity, even with the recent increased investments in production.
